EPOXY RESINS WITH EXPANDED CAPABILITIESPOLYMERight has developed a patented technology that allows to overcome the shortcomings of the typical epoxy resins.
Our epoxy resins could be used both separately and in conjunction with the conventionalepoxies. They can be cured with all types of curing agents, resulting in:
- Greatly improved flexibility and/or toughness. Both of these properties can be varied within a wide range depending on the type and amount of POLYMERight's epoxy used in the formulation. Some of the POLYMERight's epoxies produce, when cured, a soft rubber-like material. These materials can find a wide use in any applications where the brittleness of epoxy is a hindrance for its use, such as in electronics industry, for production of composites and in manufacturing of epoxy casted parts.
- Significantly improved abrasion resistance. The epoxies with increased abrasion resistance can find a much wider use in applications where mar and scratch resistance of the material is a critical parameter.
- Improved chemical stability, especially in acids and in many organic solvents, and increased resistance to the thermal shocks. The addition of our epoxy can significantly widen the use of epoxy coatings.
- Less ionic contaminants. It is possible to create epoxies practically uncontaminated with chlorides and other ionics, which will make them much more attractive to electronics and semiconductor industries.
The formulations with the POLYMERight's epoxies show a very favorable combination ofproperties:
- hardness between Shore A 35 and Shore D 60,
- elongation 100 - 300%,
- tensile modulus 100 - 2,000 psi,
- tensile strength 200 - 2,000 psi,
- glass transition temperature from -80°C to +200°C,
- significantly improved chemical stability in some organic solvents,
- improved water absorption,
- hydrolizable chlorides below 20 ppm.
The currently available on the market flexibilized epoxies can achieve similar resultsfor some of the properties, but, as the result of flexibilization, their other propertiessuffer. For example, products with similar elongation have significantly lower tensilestrength, products with same tensile modulus have much worse chemical resistance, etc. Theabrasion resistance of the POLYMERight's epoxies is order of magnitude better than similarconventional products.
The developed products are based on easily commercially available precursors. The costof prepared formulations is comparable with the cost of other specialty epoxies currentlypresent on the market.
